okay i’ve been training MMA for a year now and at first I only wanted to train just to be in shape, exercise and learn how to fight but my coach says i’m an outstanding and talented fighter and he told me I can get very far, so he said that if i’m up for becoming a fighter he will let me train in his gym for free…should i do it?

You should ask yourself, do you want to do it?

It’s a good opportunity ,but nobody can force you, it’s your choice.

How do you feel about pain and punishment? And I don’t mean just dishing it out but taking it as well from someone who has bad intentions. I think you have to seriously consider that and what happens if you get hurt. Not everyone is cut out to fight in the ring or cage and if you are not then it is the wrong place to be just to save a few bucks since it could cost you more in the long run. This should be first and foremost in your mind and I have seen guys get out there that thought they were only to quit halfway through the first round never to return or be heard from ever again. Saving yourself a little money will not be enough to keep you in there fighting for very long.

I also think you have to consider what is in this for him and his motivation. Have you ever heard a promoter or coach say something like, “I think you have a little talent and will probably get creamed but I want you to go out there anyways and fight.” Of course not! He stands to gain from this by getting more notice and recognition for his school or gym and more guys training there but it might be at your expense physically.

Yes! It is a great opportunity that a lot of people dream of. Take it before they change their mind.
